SAP BI 4.3

SAP BI 4.3 is a major release and major releases involve a lot more enhancements, features and functionality, often accompanying a substantial change in software architecture. It introduces hybrid architecture, increasingly focused on cloud computing.

The improvements can be grouped into three main areas:
– Enterprise: additions in terms of foundation, sources management, and platform.
– User Interface: visual harmony between cloud and mobile environments.
– Hybrid: new features involving the inter-relation of on-premise and cloud.

These changes are revolutionary and make migration to SAP BI 4.3 a necessity:

– Webl data models
This new model concept re-uses components from already existing documents, where several queries from several data sources can be used, can be merged and can be enriched with variables. It creates a new set of data that can be used as a source in the cloud by SAC (SAP Analytics Cloud) or by on-premise, feeding new WebI documents.

– Fiorified WebI appearance for browsers and clients
New WebI viewer has a Fiori style look & feel for end users.

– Fiorified BI LaunchPad is now mandatory
The already alternative BI LaunchPad in 4.2 becomes mandatory in 4.3. End-users will discover a rejuvenated appearance with a new colour scheme, as well as clearly navigable buttons and tiles.

– Analytics Hub integration
New version includes a new button in the Central Management Console (CMC) called Analytics Hub, where the on-premise platform will be configured to communicate with this meta-layer cloud-based device to provide content with hyperlinks and user information.

– WebI enhancements
BI 4.3 incorporates certain functionality from other modules, like Micro charts in cells, Trend lines in charts, Zoom and pan.

– Mobility, responsiveness and touchscreen readiness
The all new front-end, written in HTML5, brings with it a host of new features which improve the user experience, including “Analytics on-the-go” through Web Intelligence. Also, fully responsive interfaces across the platform, and touch-readiness, vital for mobile users.

–SAP BusinessObjects Universes Connectivity to SAP Analytic Cloud
SAP BusinessObjects Universes makes it easy to access data using business terms regardless of the underlying data source schemas or vendor. Thousands of SAP customers leveraged Universes to run their BI solutions. SAP Analytics Cloud users can now access on-premise relational Universes without moving data to the cloud thanks to the new Live Universe Connector (LUC).

Although SAP Analytics Cloud can already access and consume existing Universes — both relational UNV and UNX — BI 4.3 will make improvements to Live Universe Connector 3.0, including:

  • Enhanced performance when using SAP Analytics Cloud on top of Universes without moving on-prem data to the cloud
  • The ability to apply data level security
  • Better support of SAP Analytics Cloud capabilities, such as powerful queries and visualizations created using business terms, regardless of the data source
SAP finish

In an environment where innovation is directly tied to the success of our business, particularly true in an industry where change is not the exception, but the norm, you should plan your migration to the best product. As Benjamin Franklin once said: If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!“ Now it is the time to plan for a migration and take steps to ensure success and maximize the value proposition.
